Hawthorn & Ink is a small print studio making botanical art for rooms that feel read-in: dark florals in the manner of the Dutch masters, engravings after the 18th-century naturalists, and watercolours that could have slipped out of a field guide.
Everything begins with the archive — the specimen charts, herbarium pages and apothecary plates of the great age of natural history. We study what made those images beautiful (the patience of the linework, the restraint of the pigments, the generous margins) and make new plates in their tradition: designed in-studio with AI-assisted tools, then curated, corrected and typeset by hand. Far more is discarded than is ever printed. Every Latin name is set in Garamond italic the way a museum would set it.
Prints are produced to order in UK and EU print rooms on heavyweight matte paper — no warehouse, no waste — and every design is also available as an instant download for printing wherever you like.
The studio keeps a simple standard for what earns a place in the catalogue: it should look right beside a shelf of well-used books, and better the longer you look at it.
Hawthorn & Ink is based in the United Kingdom.
